the neighbourhood
Heist-aan-Zee sits at the western tip of Knokke-Heist. The beach is two minutes on foot: twelve kilometres wide, from the fishing harbour in Heist to Het Zoute. Knokke's Lippenslaan and Kustlaan are a short tram or bike ride away, with boutiques and terraces. The Zwin nature reserve is a tidal wetland on the Belgian-Dutch border, for walkers and birdwatchers. Through the polders you can cycle to Cadzand, Damme or Bruges. By car you are in Bruges in twenty minutes.
